Talon T3300 Review

Talon managed to get itself a reputation with the T-2200 motorcycle alarm which was first available as far back as 2006. Two years later the company premiered their latest model, the Talon T-3300, which built on the successes of the previous model and still remains their primary product to this day. Finding this alarm may be difficult at this time, though, as a new model is in the works; given the history of Talon, we can expect the next iteration to have the same set of features as the T-3300 plus much more. Let's start with what we know.

The Talon T-3300 is a system, so this will review focuses on the specific model with both the battery back-up and the perimeter sensor - technically, the T-3300ip. Everything here refers to that model.

Multi-adjustable tilt, dual-stage shock, and high-spec perimeter sensors are all included with the alarm and are connected to the piezoelectric, and battery backed-up, multi-tone adjustable - 'large and loud' best describes it - siren. Each of the sensors can also be disabled if needed by using the included remotes. To assist the alarm's smart monitoring circuits, a very accurate and patented digital accelerometer is employed with the tilt sensor. The T-3300 also watches for any assaults on it or the bike's electrical system. The standard dual-immobilizer setup is included here as well.

The (2) included four-button, multi-function waterproof remotes utilize code-hopping technology to keep the system from being scanned and cloned. The panic button is included and every feature of the alarm system is controlled using these two remote pads. But, should you lose yours while out and about, there is a 'service and emergency' override switch. The T-3300 can also be configured to automatically arm. When you do set or disable it, you will hear an audible signal and see a visual flash of your turn signal lights, should you choose to set up that last part.

Installation is aided with the (slowly becoming) standard OEM-style plug-and-play wiring harness, which is intentionally stealthy and black; the toughest part is locating the parts of the alarm as that siren is big and there are multiple components. The multi-function LED works as a status indicator and helps with programming and adjusting the alarm's settings - it is now far brighter than on earlier models. Finally, the alarm's systems are all shock, impact, tamper and waterproof, so no worries about the rough life electronics usually experience on a bike.

The remotes work great for setting things up with the T-3300, but it can get complicated; the manual is very helpful in this area, so read it closely and practice with the alarm to get things right. As usual, the remotes do not work as far away as they claim, but this is common and it will vary with atmospheric conditions and battery strength. The automatic capability of the microprocessor and sensor inputs to adjust to conditions is impressive, but proper setup saves you annoying disturbances. When the siren is tripped, you and everyone for a half-mile will know that something is wrong.

Suggested retail price for the Talon T-3300ip motorcycle alarm is US$185, with the model-specific install kit priced at $19.95, and that does include a two year warranty with full tech support. For the price - and if you can find one - the Talon T-3300 is a worthwhile alarm and a solid performer when protection is priority one.
