Scorpio rLiNK Review

Looking for the ultimate alarm system for your motorcycle? Not afraid to lay out some money to protect it? Well, if so, Scorpio has exactly what you need, and you get more than you have ever imagined possible. The Scorpio SR-i1100 rLiNK motorcycle alarm system is the very top of the product line and comes with a huge suite of features that will pacify even the most neurotic and paranoid motorcycle owner - you know where your bike is, always.

The Scropio rLiNK certainly qualifies for the hyperbole the manufacturer throws out about it - it is revolutionary technology, and it is a true ?system?. There is a continuous link between you and your bike which keeps you completely informed of status and location - even while you are on the motorcycle riding. There is also a RFID (radio frequency identification) circuit so that the rLiNK can be completely hands-free in operation.

For security, as this is an alarm, you get movement, shock, tilt and current/ignition sensors using as part of the detection system a patented three-axis accelerometer. It also sports a programmable multi-stage perimeter sensor for detecting motion around the bike so that luggage, tank bag and other accessories are also well-protected. The alarm will monitor your battery and keep watch for any electrical intrusions, informing you of both situations should they go bad.

A single-button, fully shock and waterproof remote can be used to arm and disarm the system, change the many alarm settings, and includes the RFID chip which will let you enable the hands-free mode. The panic feature works with the 120dB multi-tone siren and dual-channel immobilizer, as does the sensor network, to keep the bike from being easily taken in any circumstances - you can even make use of it as a bike locator (using the GPS system). If the alarm goes off when you have no remote handy, you do have the option of programming in a disarm override code. The entire system is backed up with a NiMH battery.

Much of the remaining alarm features are what you would come to expect with an alarm of this quality, capability and overall thoroughness. The intriguing part comes with the GPS and GSM systems that the rLiNK makes use of to a large extent. Using the GPS tracking system, which can be used by a police department should your bike be stolen, and the GSM connectivity, using mostly SMS text messages, Scorpio has given this alarm an unlimited two-way connection between rider and motorcycle. At every trip of the alarm, an SMS is sent to your connection of choice to alert you.

The GPS, though, is perhaps the most interesting of the many features included with the rLiNK. You can monitor the position of your motorcycle on any smartphone with the downloadable application; even your friends or significant other can keep track of you to be sure you are safe - it?s up to you. This, of course, also allows you to track mileage, your routes, segment times, weather problems, and much more. The usefulness of the rLiNK is limited only by the software they produce, and even the base alarm unit can have its firmware updated wirelessly. That same tech allows you to read the alarm's flash memory record which can contain over 1000 position reports.

Rider safety is further enhanced with the painstaking integration of a Rider Down Accident Notification system which employs every major feature implemented here. To be sure that the system is as precise as possible, Scorpio has seen fit to equip the rLiNK with a state of the art GPS satellite acquisition circuitry - less than one second to determine exact location on the surface of the Earth - amazing abilities. And, the GSM is quad-band for the ultimate in connectivity around much of the planet.
